Erie Canal Heritage Park at Port Byron

14 Stops

Welcome to the Erie Canal Heritage Park at Port Byron!

The Park is a unique opportunity to reach out and touch history. There is much to experience. You can walk through an authentic nineteenth-century Erie Canal lock that once raised and lowered canal boats, day and night, here at Port Byron. Just beyond is the fully restored Erie House, a canal-side saloon of the 1890s, ready to welcome you.

This audio guided mobile tour is narrated by me, Brenda Tremblay, Classical Morning Host at WXXI. I’ll describe places and people of special interest, as you walk through the lock and continue to the Erie House.

The volunteers at the Visitor Center and Erie House will be happy to answer any questions you may have. They are from the Canal Society of New York State. To learn more, tap https://newyorkcanals.org/the-heritage-park
