Lower Falls Walking Tour

15 Stops
Duration: 01:00:00
 Loop

This tour, narrated by Howard Decker, guides you past a spectacular waterfall and over a hydro power station. It first takes you to Maplewood Park, listed on the National Register of Historic Places, which features a nationally accredited rose garden and to Kelsey's Landing, a National Underground Railroad Network site.

You can park your car or bike at Maplewood Park, the first stop on the tour, or ride the RTS Lake Avenue bus number 22 to Driving Park Avenue. The tour first takes you to the Rose Garden, and then down along the west bank of the Genesee River, where you can see the Lower Falls from several vantage points. This walking trail takes you below the Driving Park bridge and then to an overlook at the top of the falls. You’ll continue south to the Middle Falls bridge and the hydro station, and then return north towards Maplewood Park, following a path up to Driving Park bridge. This will give you another perspective of the falls, before the final stop at the historic YMCA building.

Maplewood Park is located in the Maplewood Historic District, which is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. To learn more, tap: https://www.livingplaces.com/NY/Monroe_County/Rochester_City/Maplewood_Historic_District.html
