El Camino Neighborhood

10 Stops

This narrated tour takes you along the Thomas R. Frey Trail at El Camino, from Conkey Corner Park north to the Seneca Park Zoo. Along the way, you’ll hear stories from committed neighbors and organizations who’ve made the area more attractive and family friendly.

To see a map of the tour locations, press "start" and then press the "map icon" at the bottom center of the screen. This map shows locations along the trail where you'll experience audio stories and photos about the El Camino neighborhood. Some stories relate to locations which are a few blocks from the trail. You can visit them using the map link at the bottom of the content for each of these stories.

You can reach Conkey Corner Park, at the corner of Clifford and Conkey Avenues, by taking bus # 1 along St Paul Street to Clifford Avenue and walking two blocks east, or bus #2 along North Clinton Street to Clifford Avenue, and walking three blocks west. If you're driving, you can park at Seneca Park and take the trail south from the Pocket Park on St. Paul Street. In this case, you'll be following the numbered story locations in reverse order.

Construction of El Camino, which follows an abandoned CSX railroad right-of-way, was finished in the spring of 2012. It was developed by the City of Rochester in partnership with the Genesee Land Trust.
