High Falls Historic District

Take a guided audio tour of historic Brown’s Race and Rochester’s 96-foot High Falls. Long before the world was powered by electricity, or even steam, enterprising pioneers here in Rochester used the power of waterfalls to run more than 20 mills, while other factories created a wide range of products. Brown's Race is now a National Register Historic District as well as a City Preservation District.

Start your tour at the corner of State and Platt Streets, across from Kodak’s iconic headquarters building. The tour location can be reached by RTS bus routes #20 or #22, which stop at the corner of State and Platt Streets. You can park at the High Falls Garage at 262 State Street, which offers free parking on evenings and weekends.

The content for this tour was created by Greentopia, which is developing an EcoDistrict in the High Falls neighborhood. It’s based on material from the High Falls Business Association and the City of Rochester, and is narrated by Brenda Tremblay, Classical Morning Host at WXXI-FM.
